In July 2002 the five members of the Sinclair family (but not Baxter the Boxer) will be setting off from Alnwick in the North of England to Botswana to raise money for research into the causes and cures of diabetes. Why? Because our 8 year old daughter Poppy has had diabetes since she was 3 years old, and we want her and others to understand that diabetes need not stop you from leading a very full life and embarking upon exciting adventures like this. We want to use the trip to raise awareness of the problems faced by diabetic children and their families . Finally, we also want to raise money for Diabetes UK which funds research and support activities for people with diabetes.

We should also mention that this is something we've been hoping to do for many years now, and at last the opportunity presents itself.

Diabetes UK is the new name of the British Diabetic Association - the leading charity working for people with diabetes, funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition.

Over 1.4 million people in the UK have diabetes and another million probably have the condition but don't know it. Our mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future without diabetes.
